Exchange Opportunities




Who we are?

The University of Viña del Mar (UVM) was founded in 1988 and has rapidly become one of Chile's most prestigious private higher education institutions. The university has been a pioneer in the creation of new fields of study in Chile, such as Environmental Engineering & Natural Resources, and new approaches in Architecture, Design and Film.

Facilities include specialized laboratories, a veterinary clinic, a modern library system, sports centres, recreational spaces, and a radio station. The total enrolment stands at 5,000 students. International students have access to a special student ID card for public transportation (Bus Pass). The UVM has its own transportation for their students at no further cost.

In spite of its relatively small number of students, the UVM has been actively working on carrying out further endeavours with universities in Europe, the United States and also Asia.

Since 2006, the UVM has been recruiting bilingual students and professionals from several Chilean institutions, who are interested in teaching English to Chinese students of Zhejiang Gongshang University in China for a period of three weeks. Within this international framework, since 2003, the UVM has been giving Intensive Spanish & Latin American Culture Programmes to international students (mainly from the US), who come to Viña del Mar for an exchange experience.

The UVM, through its International Office, is also awarding Diplomas in Spanish as a Foreign Language issued by the Instituto Cervantes, on behalf of the Ministry of Education, Social Policy and Sports of Spain.

Latin American Literature -

Courses in English and Spanish are Offered by Global Languages Division – GLD, the Center for Spanish as Foreign Language - DELE Examination Center at the OIIE/UVM

Beginner level is for students who have never taken Spanish before.
Low Intermediate level is for students who have taken 1-2 semesters or 1-2 quarters of college level Spanish.
Intermediate level must have completed 2-3 semesters or 3-4 quarters of college level Spanish.
Advanced level must have completed at least 4 semesters or 6 quarters of college level Spanish.

All students will take a Spanish language placement test upon arrival.
